From New Zealand to Your Gaming Table

New Zealand is known around the world for its breathtaking landscapes, rugged mountains, ancient forests, and epic adventures. For us at Bea Books, it's also home.

When people ask why we create fantasy roleplaying products in New Zealand, the answer is simple: because this is where our adventures began.

Like many tabletop gamers, we started around a kitchen table with a handful of dice, a stack of notebooks, and far more ideas than we knew what to do with. We spent countless evenings exploring forgotten ruins, battling villains, discovering magical artefacts, and creating stories with friends. Those experiences sparked a passion for storytelling that eventually grew into Bea Books.

One question we're often asked is where the name Bea Books comes from.

The answer is much less complicated than a fantasy quest. Bea Books is named after Beatrice, our cat. Like many cats, she firmly believes she runs the household, oversees creative projects from the comfort of a nearby chair, and appears whenever there is work to be done. Although her contributions to game design have been limited, she has provided plenty of inspiration, frequent supervision, and an impressive number of furry quality-control inspections over the years.

New Zealand has always been a place that inspires imagination. From mist-covered valleys and rugged coastlines to ancient forests and towering mountains, the landscapes around us often feel as though they have been lifted straight from the pages of a fantasy novel. It is difficult not to dream up adventures when the world outside your window already feels filled with mystery, wonder, and untold stories.

For many people around the world, New Zealand became synonymous with fantasy through the filming of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The rolling hills, dramatic peaks, and breathtaking wilderness that brought Middle-earth to life are the same landscapes that inspire countless local storytellers, artists, and game creators today. Living in a country that helped shape one of fantasy's most beloved worlds makes it impossible not to be influenced by the spirit of adventure that defines the genre.

But the real inspiration comes from the people.

The tabletop gaming community in New Zealand is creative, welcoming, and passionate. We've met game masters who build incredible worlds from scratch, players who bring unforgettable characters to life, and hobbyists who pour countless hours into painting miniatures, crafting terrain, and sharing their love of the hobby with others. Being part of this community has shaped the products we create and the way we approach game design.

Every item we publish is created with the goal of making life easier for game masters and more enjoyable for players. Whether it's a collection of magic item cards, a campaign journal, adventure hooks, one-shot adventures, or future products still taking shape, we focus on creating tools that can be used at the table immediately. We know what it's like to need an interesting NPC at a moment's notice, a memorable treasure reward, or a quick way to keep track of an ongoing campaign because we've been there ourselves.

Creating products in New Zealand also allows us to bring a unique perspective to the hobby. While fantasy roleplaying games are enjoyed worldwide, every gaming community has its own stories, traditions, and creative influences. We believe that diversity of ideas helps make the hobby stronger, and we're proud to contribute our own small corner of imagination to the global tabletop community.

We're especially grateful for the support we've received from players and game masters both here in New Zealand and around the world. What began as a passion project has grown into something much larger thanks to the people who use our products, share their feedback, and invite our creations into their games.

Bea Books exists because we love roleplaying games. We love the stories they create, the friendships they build, and the adventures they inspire.

And while our products may find their way to gaming tables across the world, every one of them starts here in New Zealand.

From our gaming table to yours, thank you for being part of the adventure.
